Truffle
(SR Tugboat's Ruff'd Truffle JH) joins the Tugboat girls . Perhaps I
should say rejoins because she was born here. She is the daughter of
Colt and Eve. Truffle was a presence from the first. She was the
smallest puppy in a litter of seven. Size made no difference. She ruled
the litter from the first, earning the baby name of Spunky. At 9 weeks,
Truffle was purchased by long time Chesapeake fancier Janet Mason.
Janet wanted a companion that she could also have some fun running in
Hunt Tests and perhaps showing. Truffle was a rather precocious pup.
Under the somewhat relaxed rules of the North American Hunting
Retriever Association Truffle ran in her first hunt test at the age of
four months. By far the youngest dog in the field she earned her first
leg toward her SR title that day. Janet sent Truffle to Bill LaMar for
her Force Fetch and Collar Conditioning. Truffle breezed through her
basics and returned to Janet to complete her SR and then got her JH in
four straight tests.
I stayed
in touch with Truf and Janet through all this and was very pleased and
very proud at her progress.Keeping dogs in high level
field training is a demanding business both in terms of time and
money and Truf's progress slowed after leaving Bill. She still had
remarkable natural ability. I was especially impressed with her last
fall. I was at an ACC event meant to prepare dogs for working
certificates. Janet and Truffle were there but had just returned from a
summer in New England that involved little in the way of
training. Truffle betrayed her lack of practice by having a
controlled break on two of the three birds of the triple set up for the
higher level dogs. But despite the breaks , which would have lost most
dogs their focus and memory, Truffle absolutely nailed all three birds.
At that time Janet and I discussed breeding plans for her and I
broached the idea of leasing her for a litter. So here we
are............
Truffle's
pups by Rogue are due around June 5th.
Truffle
is good sized dark brown bitch of about 70#. She got her father's
beautiful head and her mother's great coat. She is a flashy looking
bitch who has points on her bench Championship. Her
personality is marvelous, outgoing and confident .
